Getting the Coos County list

New Hampshire towns and cities, not counties, hold tax-deeded property and its excess proceeds. Ask the tax collector or selectboard/city finance office of the town where the property lies in Coos County (largest: Berlin, Lancaster, Gorham) under RSA 91-A for tax-deeded property sold and excess proceeds held; the Coos County Registry of Deeds records the tax deeds and town sale deeds. Since the 2024 amendments to RSA 80:88, a town or city that sells tax-deeded property must notify the former owner and pay them the excess proceeds (the price above the taxes, interest and costs). Money a town cannot deliver goes to the NH State Treasury's Unclaimed Property Division.
