Getting the Orleans Parish list

The City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury's Tax Sales & Adjudications page says sales of adjudicated property are suspended while it moves to a new vendor and the first tax lien certificate auction has not been scheduled; it posts no excess list. Email the Tax Sale & Adjudications Unit at TreasuryTSA@nola.gov or call (504) 658-1701. We found no published excess-proceeds list for Orleans Parish. Ask the City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury (tax collector) for its list of excess bids or excess proceeds held from tax lien foreclosure and adjudicated-property sales, and the parish sheriff's civil division (in Orleans, the Civil Sheriff) for sheriff's-sale surplus; both are public records under the Louisiana Public Records Law (R.S. 44:1 et seq.). Since 2026 Louisiana auctions tax liens instead of tax sale title; when a lien or adjudicated property is later sold for more than is owed, the tax collector holds the excess, notifies interested parties, and pays it on an affidavit claim filed within one year of the notice. Surplus from a sheriff's foreclosure sale is paid to the debtor or deposited in the court registry if disputed.

Yes, recovery agents and attorneys do this for a fee, but Louisiana law may cap the fee or require a waiting period. Read any contract carefully; you never need an agent to file.
