Getting the Douglas County list

Douglas County's website blocks automated access and we found no surplus list. Ask the Douglas County Clerk of the District Court (Omaha, Hall of Justice) which foreclosure cases hold excess proceeds from Sheriff's sales; the County Treasurer only handles the tax certificate sale. Since LB 727 (2023) a tax certificate holder may take a treasurer's tax deed only when the owner's equity is $25,000 or less; otherwise the certificate must be foreclosed in district court (Neb. Rev. Stat. 77-1837, 77-1902), and sale proceeds above the taxes, interest and costs are paid into that court for the former owner.

Yes, recovery agents and attorneys do this for a fee, but Nebraska law may cap the fee or require a waiting period. Read any contract carefully; you never need an agent to file.
