Getting the Kent County list

Kent County has no county government; tax sales are held by each city or town (Coventry, East Greenwich, Warwick, West Greenwich and West Warwick). None publishes a list of tax sale surplus. Ask the tax collector of the town where the property is for sales whose bid exceeded the taxes owed and for any surplus it holds (an Access to Public Records Act request, RIGL 38-2), and check the Superior Court petition-to-foreclose case for the property. Unclaimed money ends up with the RI General Treasurer's unclaimed property program.

Yes, recovery agents and attorneys do this for a fee, but Rhode Island law may cap the fee or require a waiting period. Read any contract carefully; you never need an agent to file.
