Cook County surplus funds list
Illinois · unclaimed money left over from tax deed and foreclosure sales.
Getting the Cook County list
The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County posts no surplus list. The court decides whether the Clerk or the Cook County Sheriff holds a foreclosure surplus; the owner files a motion before the Chancery Division presiding judge and takes the order to the office holding the money (about 10 business days to release). Case files can be viewed at the Daley Center, Room 802. Illinois tax sales leave no surplus for the owner; an owner who lost a home to a tax deed can petition the circuit court for payment from the county Indemnity Fund (35 ILCS 200/21-295).
