Knox County surplus funds list
Illinois · unclaimed money left over from tax deed and foreclosure sales.
Getting the Knox County list
Knox County posts no foreclosure surplus list. Mortgage-foreclosure surplus is held by the Knox County Circuit Clerk (or the Sheriff) in the foreclosure (chancery) case; ask the Circuit Clerk which chancery cases hold surplus deposits, or search the case and file a motion for turnover of surplus funds. Court records are not covered by the Illinois FOIA, so ask the Clerk's office directly. Illinois tax sales leave no surplus for the owner; an owner who lost a home to a tax deed can petition the circuit court for payment from the county Indemnity Fund (35 ILCS 200/21-295).
